The Choice Is Yours

Much Music has announced the People's Choice nominations for their upcoming 1997 Video Awards. People's choice meaning that rather than complaining all evening about how (insert artist) should have won (insert video award), you are able to help decide who deserves some of the honours. This year Much, clearly understanding that music is unisex, is using genderless classification. This means they've tossed the traditional male and female designations in the same trashcan you can find books like "Science for girls." The Video Award fun all takes place on the corner of Queen and John, in Toronto, on September 18, 1997.

Drum roll please. The 1997 Much Music Video Awards People's Choice Nominations:

Setting Off Fireworks

Amanda Marshall's performance at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre on Saturday July 5 ended minutes before the summer finale of Benson and Hedge's Symphony of Fire. Concert goers experienced the musical fireworks much earlier in the evening...

From the Toronto Star concert review "Amanda Marshall sets off fireworks:"

"Being an Olympic vocal gymnast, she was more than eager to set off a few fireworks of her own. She certainly had a receptive following, with 12,000 adoring fans in attendance. The concert represented a triumphant homecoming for the singer who has been on a world tour for 16 months in support of her self-titled debut album, a disc which has sold a million copies in North America, with nearly half that in Canada."

From the Toronto Sun article "Amanda And Her Big Bang; Marshall Provides Musical Fireworks:"

"The diminutive Marshall is in constant motion, flailing her arms, throwing her head back and letting that huge voice fly. She was dwarfed by the huge stage, but the 12,000 who attended will agree that once her mouth opens and this warm, bluesy sound emerges, it's the stage and venue that's playing second fiddle."

Marshall Stance

From the Ottawa Sun: "In the past 18 months, her album has gone platinum worldwide, thanks in no small part to a gutsy live show that has left even the most jaded skeptic slack-jawed with wonder at the power of Marshall's voice -- a full-throated roar that seems to know no limits."
